Not sure about ability to switch to standard view - don't see the option.  However, I do have an update.  I was able to update to PO schedule through "add new item" as opposed to clicking actions "edit in datasheet" method.  I am sending you a screenshot, hope it helps.

Dwayne,

What happens when you switch the view of the datasheet to a standard view and try editing items? does that work fine without any issues?

Hi Zoeb,

I ran the diagnostics on both the client station and the server.  On each one it identified and corrected one problem.  However, this did not solve the issue.  Because we have only six workstations that access the data sheets to edit it, we do not have separate passwords.  Prior to about a week ago, it never asked for passwords or logons when editing in the data view.  Also, adding the intranet site to the trusted zones resulted in being unable to edit the data sheet at all.  I really appreciate the ideas you have provided, and if you have any other suggestion, please do share them with me.

Thank you,

Dwayne

Hi Dwayne,

If you have installed the hotfix, then repairing the office won't help, I actually ran the office Diagnostics tools from - Start - Programs- Microsoft Office- Office Diagnostics Tools- Run Diagnostics

Regarding your issue, we can try few more things and test.

1. Add the site to the Trusted zones.

2. Are you using different accounts for Windows login and Sharepoint login ? If yes, try to login to  your Windows logon using the account which has access to the sharepoint site and check, because as per the following Link, it seems to be a permissions issue - http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/Q_24129178.html

Which version of Office are you using? I had the similar problem recently and after repairing the office version from my machine the issue was resolved. Try repairing office and let us know if it helps.

Hi Qiao,

This issue with the "Site Actions" menu on Share Point Services 3.0 has been resolved.  I had added the Opera Browser and that took over everything and I think confused SPS 3.0.  Anyway, the problem continues in the Data View and only when trying to add a new item to the PO Schedule.  All other editing tasks function fine.  This issue is affecting all stations except one, and they are still able to add new items to the schedule.  I have tried logging on as the Administrator and as various users to no avail.  Just at a complete loss as to the cause of this problem.

Thanks,

Dwayne

Hi Dwayne,

From your description, I understand that when you reject the logon and password, the error message occurs, and Site Actions menu cannot work now, If I have any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

Have you tried to logon with your windows logon account, check the result. It seems that database doesn’t connect properly, to troubleshoot this issue, please provide more detailed information in the event reviewer.

Thanks,
Qiao Wei

Thank you for your suggestion.  I think there are some other issues going on with the SharePoint Services 3.0 application.  Before I could click on "site actions" and have a drop down menu, now it just changes colors and does nothing.  Event Viewer reports that the data base server could not be started.  All in all, there seems to be some weird issues going on with the server itself.

I have been using a data sheet as an end-user to add, change, update departments po schedules. Over the past few days, it has been asking for a logon and password, then rejecting it witht the message "an unexpecter error has occurred. Changes to your data cannot be saved". To my knowledge, no changes have been made on the Server or the application. If anyone else has encountered this and found a solution, I would really appreciate any help you could offer.

Thank you.
